Some countries have VAT taxes applied to imported goods that must be paid upon delivery.

What are Customs Brokerage Fees and which shipping methods are subject to them?

  • Shipping companies like UPS and DHL provide customs clearance for shipments travelling across international borders. They typically charge the customer a fee for this service based on the price of the item. Some shipping methods are excluded from the fees.
  • It is possible in Canada and many countries to Self Broker your shipment to avoid extra fees.
  • The US Postal Service (USPS) does not charge customers with brokerage fees for shipping with USPS International First Class or USPS International Priority for packages going to Canada.
