Compare your Fingernails to the Sizing Chart or Finger Pick Dimensions

  • Compare your fingernails to the Sizing Chart to find the row, or Shape that matches your nail
  • Note the two points on each side of your nail where the free edge of the nail just leaves the nail bed
  • Additionally, you can use a pencil to put a small dot on each side of your nail to make it easier to visualize
  • Line up the pencil dots on your nail to the Dots on any row of Pick Outline Shapes on either side of your finger
  • Compare the back of the Picks on the row selected to your nail bed at the cuticle.
    • The pick should come just up to or be slightly longer than your nail in this direction
    • Compare the end of your fingernail to the playing end of the Pick Outline
    • The outline is the shape of the pocket that your nail fits into
    • The end of your nail must fit within the outline
    • You may need to round off squarish “corners” on your nails for optimal fit
  • Select any outline that almost touches the end of your nail for a short playing length
  • Select an outline that is longer than the end of your nail for a longer playing length
  • The Pick only grabs under your nail on the sides, so the end can be as long or short as you like as long as it fits in the slot

Find your Width

  • Using a Ruler – Lay ruler flat across nail at the two Points on either side of your nail where the overhang starts
    • Metric mm is easiest, but an Imperial ruler will work with translation
    • Do not bend ruler around nail
    • Look Straight down and Measure the Width at the Points on Each Side Your Nail
  • Printed Sizing Chart – Point directly at a paper printed copy of the Sizing Chart, or on your computer screen
  • Look Down your nail and Line up Dots on Chart with the Sides of Your Fingernail
  • The Correct Width will just barely touch the sides of your nail

Additional Instructions for using a Printed Paper Sizing Chart

Print Sizing Chart on plain paper or clear transparency film (best option)

IMPORTANT When printing set Scale to 100%, DO NOT Scale to Fit Page.

Confirm Print Accuracy – Widths are in mm. Picks marked 10 should be 10mm wide. Any pick with a 13 should be just wider than 1/2″ (0.5118″)

NOTE – The Dots on the sides of the Outlines represent the two Points on each Side of your Nail where the overhanging portion of the nail begins. This is exactly where the nail first leaves the nail bed and starts to overhang. Imagine a line across your nail from side to side right here. We want to know the distance from here to the tip of your nail, and conversely, from here to your cuticle. Select the Shape (row) that best matches these dimensions.

Quickly compare Outline Pick Shapes to your nail shape and find the Shape (row) that best matches your nails.

Select your Pick Shape

  • Lay fingernail flat on Chart
  • Line up the Points on each Side of your Nail to the Dots on a row
  • The Outline should be even with your cuticle or just a mm or two longer towards the Cuticle End. We don’t want to have to file too much off here
  • The outline should be just longer than the end of your nail towards the Playing End of the pick. It’s fine to be much longer if you want longer picks. For shorter picks, your nail should almost touch line

Option: Fold the Chart to compare to your Fingernail

  • Fold Chart lengthwise along dotted line on a pick that looks to be about the right width
  • Compare Pick Outline length to your Nail Length
  • Line up a Dots on the Chart with the points on the Side of your Nail to center the Chart
  • The outline should be just longer than the end of your nail towards the Playing End of the pick. It’s fine to be much longer if you want longer picks. For shorter picks, your nail should almost touch line
  • The Outline should be even with your cuticle or just a mm or two longer towards the Cuticle End. We don’t want to have to file too much off here

Find your Width

  • Point directly at a Pick Outline
  • Line up the Dots on the Chart with the Points on the Sides of your Nail
  • Look down your nail and select the Width that just touches the Sides of your Nail

Or you can Fold the Chart to compare to your Nail

  • Fold Chart horizontally along the Dots for your Shape.
  • Line up Dots with the Points on the Sides of your Nail and compare Width
  • Don’t wrap Chart around Nail. Leave it flat and look straight down to compare
  • Select an outline that just touches the Sides of your Nail
  • We want a snug press fit into the pick
