Description

The Activator Case

The Activator is the versatile pick case at the center of the Tiptonic Finger Pick System. It warms the adhesive so that when pressed onto your nail, it imprints with the shape to completely fill any gaps in the fit. In addition, it rejuvenates the adhesive so you can use them over and over again. Just place your Finger Picks back in their slots in the Activator Case when you finish playing to store them until you need them again.

When plugged in, the Activator rejuvenates the adhesive in about 4 minutes. It will keep the adhesive activated and ready to go indefinitely until it is unplugged. Always unplug when not in use. Do not leave the Activator plugged in while unattended.

International Orders

For customers outside of the US we recommend that you begin with one of our Finger Pick Samplers to find your pick sizes first then upgrade to an Activator later, if needed. We currently stock power supply cords with plugs for use in the US  and Canada, AU, EU, and the UK. The US type plug comes standard with Activators and Starter Kits unless otherwise selected. AU, EU and UK power supplies are an additional US$10.00.

How to Activate your Picks

  • Turn the dial on the Activator Case to an open slot. Place a pick into the opening, adhesive side up. Rotate the dial to the next slot and insert the next pick. Each of the seven slots holds one pick.
  • Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet.
  • Connect the power cord into the back of the Activator. This will turn on the unit. The LED light on top should turn Red.
  • Wash and dry hands to remove oil from the nails, or clean nails by wiping them with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol.
  •  In approximately 2 minutes until the LED light will turn Amber and your fingernail picks are ready to go.
  • Leave your picks in the Activator as long as needed. They will remain ready to go until you need them. To get maximum life out of your Activator always unplug it when not in use.
  • When ready to use; turn the Dial opening to your first pick and tip the pick into the palm of your left hand. Be careful not to touch the adhesive as you grasp the pick, line it up with your nail and press it in place.

How to put on Tiptonic Finger Picks

  • Rejuvenate the adhesive by plugging in the Activator for about two minutes. See How to Activate Your Picks, above for details.
  • Wipe your nails clean with rubbing alcohol or wash your hands with soap and water to remove excess oils from your nails.
  • Pick up the Activator and turn the Dial opening to your first pick.
  • Tip the Finger Pick into the palm of your hand. Be careful not to touch the adhesive
  • Align the end of your nail with the nail slot on the inside of the pick. The nail slot should hook under your nail on the sides.
  • Slide your nail into the slot while lifting slightly up on the back of the pick. Be careful not to let the adhesive touch the top of your nail until it is almost all of the way on.
  • Once your nail has been pushed all of the way into the pick, press down firmly on the top of the pick for several seconds, squeezing it onto the top of your nail.
  • Check to make sure that the pick feels secure and that it is hooked under your nails on the sides and is pushed all of the way on.
  • Your Finger Pick is now ready for use. Repeat procedure for remaining picks, one at a time by selecting it with the dial and shaking it out into the palm of your hand.
  • Be careful not to touch the adhesive with anything oily, including your skin.
  • When all your picks have been applied, unplug to turn it off.
  • Always unplug when not in use.

How to remove Tiptonic Finger Picks and Store them in the Activator

  • Use your opposite thumb nail to very slightly and gently lift up at the cuticle end of the pick.
  • Push the Pick with slow pressure downward and outward away from the cuticle and off the end of your nail. The adhesive will slowly release from your nail and remain on the pick.
  • Be careful not to touch the adhesive with your fingers or anything oily.
  • Place your Finger Picks immediately back in their slot in the Activator after removing them. They will remain safely stored until the next time they are needed. When ready to use them again, just plug in the power cord to activate the adhesive, press them on and play!

    Dave Lawrence – MI

I have tried many different types and styles of finger picks and have always come up short in regard to the feel and comfort. And having permanent nails applied and all its upkeep are not an option for me. I’ve been using a standard pick for many years but, I often play my guitar with my fingers only and no pick. I find that when using my index finger as the pick, I play with more accuracy (especially for lead type picking) and then use my middle and ring fingers more or less for percussive up and down strumming while my index finger plays the dominant part. That said, when playing this way and because my nails are on the thinner side, I am always breaking fingernails and ending up with sore fingers. I then came across Tiptonic finger picks and it seems to be a game changer. I’ve been using them for a short time now and so far they work like I hoped they would. Like I said in the beginning of this review, I have tried many styles of finger picks and none of them work like the Tiptonic finger picks. There is nothing else like them on the market that feel this natural. After you find the right fit for your fingers, you heat the picks up in the activator which softens the special glue, slip your fingernail into the slot and press down, sticking them to your own fingernails and you’re ready to play. They peal off easily when you’re done and you repeat the process, reusing them many times over before needing to replace them with new picks. And best of all, I can really play hard and or soft without breaking fingernails or having sore fingers when I’m done playing. The folks who invented these picks are not only guitar players but, engineers and they have put a lot of R&D into these finger picks and it shows. Britt West has been very helpful and great to deal with. Don’t let the one time starter kit price scare you, these Tiptonic finger picks are awesome, work great and are worth every penny.

I have been using Tiptonic nails for just over one year now. I like them so much that I bought a back up activator, even though there have been no issues with the original one. I use the nails nearly every day and really won’t play finger style without them. Through the years, I have tried every imaginable nail alternative. Tiptonics are the only things that have worked for me. I have very thin nails and have to use some sort of accessory, or simply not play. These have been a great find and I heartily recommend them. Service has also been exceptional.

I have tried so many different types of pics before and none of them worked well or felt comfortable. I am using a tiptonic on my index finger for clawhammer banjo. My own nail seems to chip easily.
These stay on and they work!!

The pandemic ended my decades-long dependency on professionally-applied acrylic nails. I found Tiptonic out of desperation! What a find! I’ve used fingerpicks before and understand they require some adjustment in playing style, but Tiptonic picks are the closest thing to real nails I’ve ever experienced. All that’s required is patient diligence in finding the right fit. Tiptonic is excellent at assisting in that effort. Never going back to acrylic nails. Amazing!

I discovered Tiptonic a few months ago while searching for a way to avoid trashing my nails. Over the years I’ve tried various solutions, from nail polish and hardeners to finger picks, and have never been satisfied. I ordered a sampler pack and within minutes of putting them on and starting to play I was a fan. Tiptonic picks are what I’ve always wanted. I ordered an activator and some extra picks and can attest to the benefit of the premium adhesive.
Many thanks to Britt and the crew at Tiptonic for a great product (and amazing service).

I am loving your picks more everyday. I have a new discovery for you. As I put on my picks from the heater, I firmly push them so the tips of my nails are firmly seated. Then I place an ice cube on it and it stays in that position all day even during intense playing. The curve on my picks will slightly force them forward when still warm. The ice cube quickly hardens the adhesive.

    • Britt West (verified owner)

Thanks Walt, great tip! The Activator warms the adhesive to soften it up before applying the pick. The ice cube cools and sets it quickly.

Side Note: The Activator Adhesive is impervious to water and there is no danger that the ice cube will weaken the glue bond. You can wash your hands with the picks on and the bond is unaffected. However, the Finger Pick Adhesive used in the Finger Pick Samplers does not do as well when it gets soaked with water and it will weaken the bond.

I usually gig 3 weekends each month.
As I get things set up for our band, I will plug in the activator and let it run through its heating cycle – about 5 minutes before start time, will open the individual tip heater holders and apply the tiptonic nails.
Have had a problem with one of three nails staying put and in place – added a single dot of the tape adhesive to the problem nail and this seems to help.
Will even melt into the adhesive for the next application; not sure how many reapplication cycles will work for each nail, but so far, so good for at least 4 cycle of apply, remove, reapply.
Hoping that the dot adhesive will help with reapplication.
    Love it !!!!!

I concur with every positive review here. The nails themselves are an amazing product, the fact that someone finally came up with something that is truly innovative and actually works. I have tried so many different things that failed! Anyway, I have been using the nails with the regular adhesive and finally ponied up for the activator/heat glue. I wish I had done so a year ago. It is night and day In terms of effectiveness and ease-of-use. If you are on the fence, absolutely go ahead and do it. It’s a beautiful quality piece and the glue itself is 10 times more effective with heat. I believe at the heating also allows the nail itself to form a little more closely to your natural nail. No more stripping the old glue off the nail before you reapply it. I can reuse the same glue dots for two weeks or more.

All 5 star and I’d give it 6 if I could. I’m in my mid 70s, been playing all my life and I can’t think of a single technology or condition that has been as affective in my playing as Tiptonic finger picks. You owe it to your instrument to give it its full voice, without the problems associated with all of those other assorted picks. Incidentally, I agree with all the prior 5 star statements. One last comment. The service is the best. I have great respect for Brit West and his attention to getting me the proper fit.

Originally, I used the picks with the non-activator glue. They worked great and I loved the picks. I wrote a separate review on that earlier. Since then, I bought the activator with the glue which really improved my comfort with the picks. This makes the picks rock solid on your fingertips. They really feel like part of your body. I would recommend going this way for the adhesive. Its super easy to use, the picks go right on and stay tight for as long as you want. You can wear them all day if you want. The also come off easy as well.
